Humboldt Fellowships in Germany for foreign students to study in Germany

The Humboldt Research Fellowship for researchers of all nationalities and research areas: We support you – postdoctoral and experienced researchers – with your research in Germany.

You will obtain the Humboldt Fellowship in Germany:

  • A monthly fellowship of 2,650 euros for postdoctoral researchers (doctorates completed within the past four years)
  • 3,150 euros for experienced researchers (PhDs completed within the past 12 years),
  • A start date that matches your schedule
  • An intensive German course for the Fellows and their marital partners prior to the fellowship
  • Additional financial support for accompanying family members and items such as travel expenses and
  • Comprehensive sponsorship for graduates once the research period ends, such as additional residency in Germany.
  • In addition, the Humboldt Foundation awards the George Forster Research Awards each year to leading researchers from developing countries.

Conditions for applying for the grant:

To apply for the Humboldt Fellowship in Germany, the following conditions must be met:

  1. To obtain a doctorate degree or an academic degree comparable to (PhD or equivalent), completed less than twelve years before the date of application.
  2. A list of all academic publications that you have made should be sent
  3. You should send a letter explaining exactly what you want to do when you receive this scholarship.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from experts who have supervised or supervised your teaching or who may have assisted you with your research plans.
  5. Applicants in the humanities or social sciences and doctors must have a good knowledge of the German language
  6. Applicants and engineers must have a good knowledge of German or English;
  7. Requests to continue the search that is already in progress may only be considered in exceptional cases.
  8. The applicant may not have spent an extended period of more than six months in Germany before submitting the application. Likewise, you left Germany 18 months earlier.
  9. The Humboldt Foundation assumes that candidates will adhere to good scientific practice and legally binding principles of scientific ethics during scientific research periods.
